這樣一來已經非常清晰了，根據英語單詞和語句的一些特定性，已經能夠逐步假設某些位置大概應該填上的單詞了。比如透過前面的證明已經知道gj字母對是代表單詞了，wny代表單詞the等幾個已經確定的單詞，就可以對連線得像長蛇的字母串進行劃分，大致地分出某些字母所在的位置是某單詞的最後一位字母或開頭一位。又如密文開頭的字母對gj前面的字母串sgrlsiwi對應的密文字母是-i-a-oto，就可以假設字母串sgrlsiwi為單詞iyaoto。如果是這樣，就有了s=，r=y。字母串vngjl對應的密文字母串是-ha，於是就可以假定為單詞cha，於是又有了字母v=c。把這些新推出的明文字母填入後，又能相應地推斷出其他字母來，這就是密碼破譯中最簡單的猜字法。學生在學習英語的時候也常常會做類似的一些根據已知單詞的部分字母來填寫出完整的單詞的練習題。
